Step into the future of hassle-free travel with the ultimate digital companion.

Overview

Flare is an airport app that guides users through major airports around the world. This project was created during my Senior Capstone, where I worked alongside 3 classmates to design, build, test, and install an information retrieval system.

Problem: According to our survey results, 65% percent of people say they find traveling stressful.

Idea

I thought of this idea after experiencing one of the worst travel days of my life. I knew I wasn't the only one who dreaded going to the airport. Immediately after pitching the idea to my classmates, we started brainstorming potential solutions. 

Solution

An easy-to-navigate app with individual airport pages and a chat feature. 

 

Due to time limitations, we decided to focus on a couple of important features. 

This included a chat feature, where travelers can message other app users and airport employees to get updates on wait times, places to lounge during layovers, coffee recommendations.... you name it!

After signing in, users are sent to the homepage where they can immediately search for their specific airport. Individual airport pages include an overview of the airport, its top-rated restaurants, bars, and cafés, and an interactive map.

Competitor Analysis

After our initial research, we found that most airport apps have failed. As opposed to airline apps, which are used frequently, most airport apps on the market have been abandoned because of a lack of engagement.

Our app stands out because of its unique chat feature and business strategy to partner with airports who will benefit from additional features to their pages. 

Personas

Our users are both experienced and novice travelers. Both experienced and novice travelers are on the app to benefit from its features. Experienced travelers are also there to help guide novice travelers through the airport.

Business Model Canvas

Our BMC highlights the value and convenience provided to Flare users. We will utilize targeted advertising and industry campaigns to reach both users and industry partners. Our customer segments include anyone who wishes to travel and those who wish to help.

Next Steps

Due to limited time, I wasn't able to expand the app design to include additional pages and features. I plan to add these new ideas in my next iteration, as well as include more interactive elements using Figma.

Overall, I'm proud of what my team and I were able to accomplish and look forward to expanding its design.
